Prior to the series

Carlos was born and raised in Brazil to Pedro and Julia Santos as the oldest of seven siblings. As the oldest, Carlos was born to one day take over Pedro's position as CEO of their company, however, Carlos wanted nothing to do with it. As a result, the position went to his younger brother, Jorge. Carlos was rarely home when his brothers were growing up, really only coming home after staying out all evening and having dinner and then retiring to his room. The only time when he stayed home a lot was when his youngest sibling, and only sister, Elena was born.

After seeing the nanny that his parents hired to take care of Elena not doing her job, Carlos stepped in, he didn't leave Brazil at all, doing his college courses there. When he was 21, Carlos returned home only to find a six-year-old Elena having trouble breathing. After rushing her to the hospital, it is discovered that she was severely dehydrated. That was the last straw for Carlos. Not wanting to really talk to his parents again, he just took Elena and left and moved to Spain where Carlos had recently transferred to along his friends. After moving, he called back home and gave his parents a choice: give him guardian and parental rights over Elena or he'll tell the world what they did to their youngest child. In the end, his parents sent over the parental rights and that was the last time Carlos or Elena heard from their parents.

While he was in school, since was doing full time and didn't have the best job, one of his friends baby sat Elena for him. Once he got a well paying job, Carlos placed Elena in a day care. Carlos and Elena lived a happy life with in Spain. Three years later, after graduing with his major in Dueling History/Teaching, Carlos took Elena to Egypt where they saw the Great Pyramids and even the tablets of Pharaoh Atem. That was when Elena first got into Duel Monsters.

When Elena was between the ages of 10 and 12, the two moved to Japan where Carlos had been offered a job as a history teacher at Domino City University. Once Elena was 15, Carlos allowed her to apply for Duel Academy.

Trials of Darkness

Carlos does not physically appear in Trials of Darkness, but is mentioned by Elena.

Chaos of The Light

Carlos makes his debut in the first chapter where he reveals to be the new Slifer Headmaster and Duel History Professor, when Crowler and Bonaparte try to think of plans to rid of the Slifer Dorm. It is later revealed by Elena that she recommended her brother to Sheppard who talked it over with Seto Kaiba.

It's only until the fate of the Slifer Red Dorm is at stake where Carlos reveals his deck.

It is unknown what type of Deck Carlos duels with. Elena doesn't even know. When Bonaparte tries to destroy the Slifer Red Dorm, Carlos steps in and it is revealed that he uses a Lightsworn Deck.

  • Carlos was originally not going to be the new Slifer Red Headmaster in Season 2.
